"Scrapping Great" Deals Reveal

This month I had the good fortune of being chosen by Scrapping Great Deals to play with a customer design kit and show off what I created here on my blog, today.

It was a beautiful kit with papers from MME and We R Memory Keepers, pretty little brads and clear dew drops (which I love), a ladybug stamp, cat's eye chalk ink, chipboard flourishes, pretty ruched ribbon, gelly thickers, plus, plus, plus! Needless to say I had a lot of fun with this kit!

Some of the paper was glittery, and oh so pretty! I used pictures of my friends' (Heather and Gary) two beautiful little girls and their newborn son. The pictures are so adorable and as soon as I saw them I knew they'd be perfect for these papers. As a thank you for allowing me to use and post the pictures of their children I am gifting these two layouts to Heather. I added stickles, glimmer mist and clear gems from my own stash.

It's a little hard to tell in this picture however, I partially hand cut around some of the flowers in the paper to pull them forward and layer them over the green background behind the pics.

And some other papers felt a bit vintage to me so I decided to use a picture taken of my sister in 1973 when she was just a wee thing! Cute, eh? I remember this dress, I had a pink one to match... they were so pretty but were super itchy to wear! Oh well, I guess there is a price to pay for looking good! From my own stash I added the ribbon strip flower with button centre , which I made earlier in the month, you can check it out here.

And this is a little birthday card I made with some of the leftovers in this kit.

Thanks for looking! And thank you to Sheila, Mike and staff at Scrapping Great Deals for the opportunity to play with a great kit!

a baby gift....

One of my scrappy friends, Sheri, is being honoured at a baby shower this afternoon. Her baby girl is due mid- August. Take a peek at what I am bringing to the shower today.

I love the pattern of this blanket I have made similar blankets in past, the pattern sort of came about as I was playing with two other patterns.

These booties are so sweet in a mary-jane shoe style and the hat just seemed to beg me for flowers!

Thanks for looking!

Father's Day card

My little Timmy loves to use the Cricut, so when I asked him if he wanted to make a car shaped Father's Day card for Daddy with me, he was all for it! It is a pretty simple card so it's just perfect for little hands. We used the "My world" cartridge to cut out a 4" x 10" card, added a silhouette background and a blackout backing. We also added some acetate for the windows and some chrome details with a silver pen. Saw the idea somewhere on the web.

Painted Buttons

In my latest design team kit from Two Scrapbook Friends were several clear buttons, which are pretty cool on their own and I used some of them just as they were. But I also wanted some to be a specific colour. In January, I blogged about altering clear buttons by gluing cardstock to the backs of them, which is fun and easy, you can check it out here . Yet I wanted to try something different so I pulled out the craft paints and a little foam brush and went to town spreading the paint on the back of the button (if you paint on the back you still have a nice shiny button when you are done. Depending on how thick you spread the paint and how many coats you use use you will have a crackle type finish or a solid finish.
And here is a sneak peak at the button on a layout, you'll have to wait until July 1st to see the whole layout!

a couple of more cards....

I made this card for all the kindergartners in Timmy's class to sign for their teacher, Mrs Manzo, and give to her along with a year end gift.

I made this card a while ago for a friend but forgot to post it.

a few thank you's .....

here's a peak at a few simple cards I made for our foster son to send out to thank the people involved in his trip to Disney with Dreams Come True. A great way to use up scraps too!

Ribbons + Buttons = Flowers

It is my turn to post a tip or technique for the Two Scrapbook Friends blog/forum, and this is what I came up with.

1. For a ruffled flower, run a basting stitch along one side of a 6” - 8” length of ribbon or lace, leaving a tail of thread at the beginning of the length of ribbon.

Pull both ends of thread and tie a knot to create a ribbon ruffle.

Secure a button to the top of the ruffle wit a glue dot.

2. For a funkier, more mod flower. Cut ribbon or twill into four 3” strips, a layer one over the other in a criss-cross pattern.

Secure in the centre with a couple of stitches, to hold the ribbons in place.

Add a button to the top with a glue dot. Add some inking, if desired.
I am using both of these technique in my Design Team work this month, hope you get a chance to play with them too, they are super fast, easy and fun!

My baby is growing up....

.... today Timmy graduated from kindergarten! A sort of bittersweet day, I am so proud of him for all he has accomplished, he is such an amazing boy.... tho I can't believe that come next school year I won't even have him home with me part-time. It's so funny that we do not think of him as our adopted son, but simply our son, until days like this and then I know for sure that I couldn't love him any more whether he was born from me or found under a cabbage patch! Being a mother is truly an amazing blessing.

We are going to miss being in Mrs Manzo's class.

We made these cupcakes for the big graduation party, individualizing one for each of the kindergartners. I am going to miss those sweet little faces being a big part of my week. The little mortar board cupcake picks were made on my Cricut, I cut out a blue one first and then the orange ones on sillouette and pop dotted a toothpick between the two layers. Blue and orange are our school colours.

A card for Sheri....

At the last monthly get together of the Scrappin' Bitches (my group of scrappy friends!) we combined our day of scrapping with a baby shower for our friend Sheri! Sheri is a really sweet girl and along with her husband, Steve, is expecting another sweet girl, on August 16th (their first wedding anniversary). What, you may ask, do Scrappin' Bitches get a fellow scrapaholic who is expecting a first baby? Well a Cricut of course!! We're sure it will get plenty of use creating die cuts for layouts for many. many years! Thank you other Laura for the great gift idea and picking it up! Thank you Lee for hosting and everyone else for all the great food!

I volunteered myself to make the accompanying card, check it out......

I even crocheted the little flower myself... it was so fun!!

Private Recruit Christopher Whitaker....

Today is a proud day for Ian and I, Chris decided some time ago that he would like to join the Canadian Forces, and after many tests, interviews, medical screenings, etc. he was offered a job with the CF. This morning he was sworn in to his new position, and is very much looking forward to his future. July 4th he will board a plane for St. Jeans, Quebec where he will start his basic training. Congratulations and stay safe, Bud!

u R mine

Just a quick post of a layout I created using the June product mini kit from Two Scrapbook Friends ...

everything was included in the kit except the rub-ons, brown flower, "u" sticker and mini letter stickers. This is such a fun challenge that the store offers with this inexpensive little kit. I love seeing all the different layouts created with the same products. And as a further bonus the store offers prizes each month to the creator of the winning layout!

Scrapper"s Island

It's Scrapper's Island time over at Two Scrapbook Friends and with that came the first challenge. Now, as a design team member I cannot actually compete .... I am banned to Exile Island ... but it's still fun to play along.

Here is a peak at the first sketch, Karan Gerber, posted for the competition.....

and my take on it.....

Having never been a Survivor fan, I am not up to speed on all the ins and outs of this game, so I am going to have to learn as I go along. should be loads of fun though, and a good way to get some scrapping done!

Celebrate 4

Well after a four hour battle with my scanner, which it seems I won, possibly temporarily, tho! I have finally managed to upload this layout. This is a page I created while scrapping with my girlfriends on Saturday, all day one page, lol, not very productive but I had a blast just the same! Love the papers and the die cut party hat, added a fair bit of stickles to glitz it up as well as some hand doodling.
