August DT Reveal

It's reveal day again at Two Scrapbook Friends. The papers in the kit for August were from Stamping Station and not like any that I have used before. They are heavy weight and good quality, but they had a bit of a sheen to them and I admit that I was a little concerned at first whether they'd accept ink or distress ink as well as the papers that I usually work with. Rest assured, they inked up beautifully!

Carolyn told me they added some hockey related embellishments to my kit as they know my little Timmy plays hockey... it was such fun to play with! I also got to use my new We R Memory Keepers circle cutter!

My first layout is a one pager and called "Play with Heart", the journalling reads...."This summer you started playing ball hockey and you quite simply love it! So much so, that you stop and flash us grins mid-game!" Timmy's jersey number is 9, so I felt I needed that on the page as well.

-green cardstock, thickers, bo bunny chipboard flourish and jenni bowlin tag added from my stash

This is my two page layout, called "Ball Hockey", I used the 12 inch chipboard ruler as a way to keep track of Timmy's goals. On the day these photos were taken he scored his first goal! I used the little acrylic ticket, from the kit, as a slide for the goal tracker by cutting out the middle part of it.

I felt I wanted one additional patterned paper on top of the two that came in the kit so I created one with stamps, ink and glimmer mist. The "champ" stamp came in the kit and the little circle arrow stamp is a Gel-a-tin stamp from my stash. First, I random stamped both stamps in grey, black and a sandy colour. Then misted randomly around the paper with glimmer mist and used a baby wipe to give the glimmer mist a distressed, smudged look. I trimmed the paper into the shape I wanted and then inked the edges. When I was all done I kind of like it, a lot! On the adjoining page I machine stitched a continuation of the shape of my homemade die cut paper in white thread. The second page is a little more subtle than the first as I really wanted to draw attention to the large photo.

journalling reads... " Registration $95.00, Equipment $175.00, the look on your face when you scored your first goal = PRICELESS" and is written on the acrylic ticket stub.

-aside from the homemade die cut paper and the stitching, everything is from the kit

Instead of an altered item this month, I chose to do a card.

a wonderful day....

Today was a great day, Ian and I were lucky enough to get tickets to see Loreena McKennitt perform with her band in her home town of Stratford, Ontario! We left the house in the early afternoon and stopped along the way to do some antiquing (picked up a couple of things I think I can use to organize my scrappy space) then we found a quiet place to enjoy a bite to eat and a nice glass of red.

As we walked along the streets of Stratford we noticed people lining up very early for the event, so we decided that we better join in the line if we were going to have any chance of getting a seat anywhere that I could see from. Turns out we were in luck, waiting in line for an hour paid off as we got seats in the second row, just to the right of middle!!

After the show we snagged an autograph and a photo with her!

Thanks Ian for a great day out, love spending time with you! And thanks to my big boys for holding down the fort while Dad and I were away!

A card for Chris.....

Today is my friend, Chris', birthday. (Happy Birthday Chris!!!! Wishing you everything wonderful for the year ahead, you deserve it!)

This is the card that I gave to her, I was inspired by a card I saw in the latest Scrapbooks and cards Today issue, but I altered my version to accomodate all the colours of the rainbow.

Hostess Club

My friend Lee sells Close to My Heart scrapbooking products and she runs a once a month hostess club. There are 9 of us in the club who get together to scrapbook and socialize. Each month one of us has a turn at being the hostess and she is responsible for bringing the treats and finding a layout for all of us to scraplift, she also gets the hostess credits to choose free product from the catalogue, based on the sales for that night.

Unfortunately, I have not put pictures on the layouts from the first two months, but here is a look at what we created for the third and fourth months.

I can tell you that both of these layouts were scraplifted from magazines, but that's about all the info that I have. It is so much fun to see all the different looks that come out of one design because of each person's paper, picture and embellishment choices.

Prize winner!

The winner of the two cards offered in this post is ........ Laura!

Congratulations! I will mail them to you asap!

I have been playing around with making some of my own embellishments, check out what i have come up with.....

First, I cut some scalloped circles on my Cricut using the Mini Monograms cartridge, then I punched some smaller circles to nest inside the scalloped circles. Then I gathered other essentials.... ink, adhesive and pop dots.

For the first little one I simply layered a paper flower and some bling. I think it gives this little flower a bit more punch!

Layering a button with some ribbon and a little stick pin on a scalloped circle gives a simple button and scrap of ribbon more presence on the page.

For this one I turned the scalloped circle over and found the centre, then I snipped between each scallop to the centre and turned it back over and inked and curled up the edges. Then I added a little paper flower and a button, taking a tiny little flower and making it a little bigger.

More Embellies....

Here is a few more homemade embellies......

Layering a hand cut flower from a piece of patterned paper with a punched circle, pop dots and some bling makes a cute little embellie.

Using some left over chipboard from a mini album, I cut a star with my Cricut. then I stamped it with polka dots and added a little button to the centre. Inked the edges and look what I got, how cute is this little guy!

A couple of mini stamps and Stickles makes this cute little ladybug embellies.

Then I used some of my home made embellies to make these two cards!

Leave me a comment for a chance to win both of these cards with envies!! I will do a random draw after 6 pm on Wednesday July 22nd.

Scrap and Spa

Yesterday I got together with my scrappy friends for an all day scrap and spa event! I had my first ever massage and I will tell you I really needed it after last week so the timing was perfect.

As usual, the day was filled with good food, good wine and amazing company! After each of these days I am reminded of how lucky I am to have these women in my life. These events are always therapeutic for the mind and spirit... and this time for the body as well! You ladies know who you are but I am sharing a picture of your beautiful selves anyway!
The Scrappin' Bitches in April 2009 on retreat!

Here is a peak at what I created at scrap and spa....

I made 20 cards altogether.

this is one of my designs.

bases on a sketch by Karan Gerber for the Scrappers Island challenge at Two Scrapbook Friends.
Thank you to Elaine for hosting this event, thank you to Heidi for a great massage, thank you to all of you for the wonderful food and drink.... and most importantly thank you to each of you for being you and one of us! Love you ladies;) xoxo

We love you through and through.....

We are going to a baby dedication ceremony today for our friends, Gary and Heather, and their new son, Seamus. I made a mini album for them and this co-ordinating card to go along with it. The words are from a children's book, I really liked it as it gave a good opportunity to use pictures of fingers, toes, ears, nose, etc. It was a favourite book of Timmy's and mine when he was little.

Page 1 reads..... We love you through and through ( i have fixed the crooked journaling strip!)

Page 2 and 3 read.... We love your top side. We love your bottom side.

page 4 and 5 read.... We love your inside and outside.

page 6 and 7 read... We love your happy side , your sad side.

Page 8 and 9 read.... We love your fingers and toes, ears and nose.

Page 10 and 11 read....We love your hair and eyes, your giggles and cries.

Page 12 and 13 read... We love you running and walking, silent and talking.
