A little treat for my scrappy friends......

I am off today at an all day crop to raise funds for a cure for Crohn's and Colitis... I know I will have a great time! Along with my scrap supplies I have packed these little surprises for my scrappy friends (so they know how much I enjoy our scrappy times together, and I appreciate that they pick me up and drive me too!).......

They are made out of metal washers, you know the kind for plumbing! Basically you adhere a punched circle to the washer with a liquid glue, suitable for metal, then trim away the centre and sand the edges of the inner and outer circles. Then cover with a good amount of Glassy Accents, Liquid Glass etc., whatever your product of choice is. You can glue the paper onto one side, trim and sand, then repeat for the second side. Add the Liquid Glass to one side only. You will likely want to leave it over night to dry (as you will be using a fair amount) then add the Liquid Glass to the other side and let that dry. You can use coordinating paper on the second side or something totally different, and have it reversible. Easy Peasy! It's fiddly but a no brainer. I came across the idea a while ago online, on a site called Little Birdie Secrets. I've made a dozen and will stock up on Liquid Glass so I can make some more, they make a cute little gift.

Hope you get to play today!

Semi Formal

Wow a second post today! I completely forgot this morning that we were having a bit of excitement here tonight! My second son Jon has a semi formal dance at his high school tonight, so I managed to snag a few pics of him and his beautiful girly, Marissa!

Yes he owns a belt, a tie, proper shoes, and possesses an ability to tuck in! But this is better he says! Apparently a boy and his red suede shoes do not easily part!

Cute eh?

Oh and Timmy can't resist squeezing in on a photo opp!

Have a great evening!

Yummy-ness

Along with homeschooling and menial motherly duties, like laundry and house work, today I am baking. The house smells deliciously of brown sugar and cinnamon. Mmmmm, not sure how the diet will fair today!

I started out baking a coffee cake to bring along to the crop I am attending tomorrow. See here for the deets if you are interested. But of course, my little helper insisted on having one for him to share with his brothers, or more importantly, to have as his morning snack. And he also wanted to take some to his Grandma's tomorrow night where he will be enjoying a sleepover with his little cousin, Jake. (Thank you Grandma for the play date with Jake and visit with you and a sleep in for Ian and I.)

It's a super easy recipe cull of goodness, why don't you give it a try.

Mom's Coffee Cake (affectionately known in our home as Brown Sugar cake)

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup sour cream (you can use fat free if you wish just use a brand that is a little thicker like Gay Lee)
2 cups a/p flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Filling

1/2 cup brown sugar
4 tbsp white sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

How to: Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, add eggs and vanilla then beat one minute. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with sour cream to the butter batter.

Spread a little less than half of this mixture into a 9 x 12 pan. Combine filling ingredients and sprinkle a little more than half of the filling onto the batter in the pan. Top with remaining batter and then remaining filling.

Bake at 350C for 35 minutes.

Enjoy!!! Gotta run and finish our school work so I can start the housework and pack for my crop tomorrow! Woo hoo, it's going to be so much fun! Can't wait to see all my scrappy friends again.

Have a great weekend!

PS. Um yeah, I didn't even make it through this post without sampling the cake! Had to make sure it was edible after all!

More Scrapiness...

Lucky me I had some more time to play on Saturday night! My friend Pam came over for a couple of hours, she got two doubles done and I completed two singles (guess I was too chatty, lol!). Anyway, here are my LO's ......

On this layout I used Glimmer Mist on the Riff Raff dragonfly, chipboard bracket and the Bazzill flower, I also added lots of bling even though it's a boy's layout, I was in the mood! He's cute enough to pull it off anyway! hee hee. I also coloured my ink resist alpha stickers from CTMH with one of my Copics, it's just so much easier and less messy than daubing on ink from an ink pad.

For this LO I used a few bits (literally as this is a fairly minimal LO) from my monthly kit I get from Scrapping Great Deals . My DH and I went to see Loreena McKennit last summer and were lucky enough to have our picture taken with her. My title is "folk music" translated to Gaellic, for a little bit of extra creativity and fun! It's hard to tell in this photo but the papers are sparkly. And the pin is from Maya Road, I've been eyeing them for a while and grabbed them when I was out scrappy shopping with Pam Saturday afternoon.

Happy Scrappin'!

In the swim of things

Last night I broke free for a bit, and spent some much needed time with my scrappy friends (thanks for a great evening Elaine, Anita, Sheri, Lee, Victoria, Rebecca and Jenn!)

This is what I created ...

I hope you get some play time this weekend! tyfl!

My Valentines!

Last night I was feeling crafty, so I decided to make a Valentine's Day decoration. Rummaging through my stash I found two plain white cubes I bought at 50% off ages and ages ago. The last few time I have come across them in my cupboard, I remember thinking to myself, why didn't I buy more, I really need at least three. Well apparently not, apparently they were just sitting there waiting for the right occasion! I made up these XO cubes with pics of my guys on them. Cracked out the pink, bling, flowers, rubons and glitter for this one, such fun!!

Hope you have a happy day on the 14th with your Valentine!

Playing with CS Sketch and Marshmallow Bridges!

I scrapped with my friend Victoria, last Friday night using Creative Scrappers sketch #87 and this is how it turned out. I am really starting to like playing with sketches, they are especially great when scrapping and socializing, it must be the aging process kicking in but I feel like I can't think about designing a layout and talk at the same time anymore!

After playing out in the snow yesterday, I made Timmy a hot chocolate and gave him the bag of mini marshmallows. He doesn't really like marshmallows, nor does anyone else in the house, but he always asks for them when we go grocery shopping. So I assumed he wanted them for his hot chocolate. Well I guess not! To go with his marshmallows he asked for toothpicks and created this, it is reminiscent of a bridge we crossed during our getaway over the Christmas break. I'm thinking budding architect, his creative side and his mad math skills seem to be a winning combination! (Oh and if you noticed the haircut, don't mention it, Ian and I are still heartbroken over the loss of his locks!)

Have a lovely day!

Valentine's from Timmy

You may have read on my old bloggeroonie that at the end of January Timmy and I did a little scrappy shopping. Well here is a little peak at the creations he made with his new supplies.
Since he is being home schooled he has substantially less Valentine's to make this year, just a few friends and his brothers. He even made one for the girlfriend of one of his brothers, but had to give it to her right away so I don't have a pic. We will be tucking candy necklaces inside each of these little cuties.
His creativity amazes me, these are all his ideas (I had to use the punches for him but he instructed me what to do). I love how he tucked the hearts into the punched edges of the pattern papers, he said that the punched paper reminded him of baskets so it looked like a basket of hearts!
Hope you get to play with someone fun today!

10 lbs baby!!

My resolution for 2010 is to take better care of me, well baby steps, 'cause of course I have to take care of everybody else in my house first... but I have been doing somethings on a daily basis....

-i am mega dosing on b12 cause mine is super low, when the doc has a more permanent solution for me i will heed her advice
-i am watching my iron as my iron and white blood cell counts are low too
-i always take my calcium and vitamin d so my old bones stay strong as they get even older!

And basically I am paying more attention to what I eat. I am also doing weight watchers (getting a little bloopy) anyway it's been not quite two months and this morning I hit the 10lb mark. woo hoo!! It's gonna be a good day! I'd love to lose 20 more but I don't know if that is realistic for me, we'll see.

And on a bit of a scary note... I am registering for a BOOT CAMP fitness program today (thankfully with some friends) to help get my butt (and the rest of me, hee hee) into better shape. It should prove interesting, 3 hardcore workouts a week monitored by a personal trainer, outdoors when possible (if you know me you know I don't embrace exercise and I don't like weather (lol) but it's good for me so I will do it! We also get consults with a dietician so that will be great for me personally ... because of my IBS I tend to have terrible eating habits and when feeling unwell will go for long stretches without eating (sometimes a couple of days) and then I will binge like there is no tomorrow. Wow TMI, lol, anyway... it's time for changes... I will keep you posted!

Wish me luck and don't forget to do something for YOU today!

Scrap for a Cure

My friend, Laura, is hosting and organizing a crop to raise funds in the hopes of finding a cure for Crohn's and Colitis sooner rather than later. Laura is a great girl and I sincerely hope she accomplishes her goal.

The crop is being held in Kitchener on February 27th, and I am very much looking forward to it! Last year it was a great event and our group won a day crop at the Scrapping Turtle in St. Jacob's, woo hoo, right! Anyway, if you are free that day, I'd love for you to join us! You can check out all the info here.

Come on out and get your scrap on, a fun day for you and a good cause too, what more can a girl ask for!!

Scrap Therapy

Yesterday was a tough day, our little guy had a seizure, and while these are not uncommon for him, we thought we knew all of his "triggers". Basically, for him he will have a seizure (grand mal type of thing) if he experiences a sudden unexpected pain (possibly a fall off of his bike that results in a severely skinned knee, his mood can also plays a factor, but in conjunction with pain).

Anyway yesterday, while homeschooling him, he was standing beside my desk reading to me and he started to seize out of the blue, no triggers, no nothing, and ended up having a full blown seizure. He came through fine, actually requiring less recovery time than usual, but I was seriously freaked out (I feel so bad for my baby). And more so, because now I feel as if we no longer have the answers to the 'why's' of the seizure, I am feeling like we need to start from scratch with investigating them again. However, that is for another day.

For today, I am thankful for my friend, Anita, offering me some of her precious free time last evening for scrap therapy! Unsure if I would be able to be creative I grabbed sketch number 86 from Creative Scrappers (you can find it here) and off I went.

This is my take on the sketch.....

Love that little face, always makes me feel better to play with his pics! Thanks again, Anita!

Hope you all get some scrap therapy soon!
