Technique Wednesday

Hello all!

I came across this technique a couple of weeks back and it was super timely for me, I thought I'd share it hear so you can try it too!

A few months ago I came across a few Beatrix Potter books while my husband and I were antiquing.  I picked them up with the intention of using them in a card or another project.  They brought back such sweet memories of snuggling and reading to my big boys when they were babes.
Look how sweet the illustrations are.   But, when the time came to create with them, I couldn't bring myself to cut out the pictures... I didn't want to ruin the whole book for a few pictures, it seemed so wrong since we have always told our boys that books are precious and something to be treasured or shared.
Not long afterward I saw this tip while surfing the net, and thought I'd share it with you.

Scan or photocopy your favourite storybook images, then take it one step further and print them onto textured white cardstock.  They look like original pieces of art!
Now add it to your creation.  Beautiful right?  This is the card I shared on Easter Sunday.
Just as a caution, all images in books are copyrighted.  Using them for your personal use is okay, but not for the purpose of selling your creations.

Thanks for popping in to see what I have been up to!

Hello blog friends!

Guess what?  Nope, that's not it! We are moving, yup moving!  I know, we have only been in this house for 6 months, but it is going back on the market this week!

When my mother in law passed away last month, she left her home to my husband.    We have been working hard at emptying it out, it was such an overwhelming job, but we managed to give away and donate much of her things, so they will be loved and used some more.   It  was our intention to put her house on the market, but the more we thought about it the more it makes sense for us to move into it.  It has more space than our house does.

Do you remember we substantially downsized when we moved here as our two eldest boys had moved out.  We'll they are back!  That's a good thing.

Anyway, what will be our new home doesn't quite have enough bedrooms but it does have space to add another, and heck we may as well add another bath as well.  Over the next few months my husband and I will be busy keeping this house clean and renovating the new house.  We will be hiring people to help us though, as there is way to much on our wish list for us to take on on our own.  First order of business is a new paint job, every wall, door and piece of trim will be painted.  along with all of the kitchen cabinets.  I have always wanted a creamy white kitchen and now seems like the time.  Yesterday we hired a painter!   Then all new flooring will be installed... new carpet in the bedrooms, hardwood through the living room, dining room and kitchen, ceramic int he baths and cork in the family room that has a walk out to the back yard..  Meantime, we will enlist the kids to do some yard work, once it dries up a bit.

Once these major items are taken care of we can start moving some of our stuff in and looking for window coverings.   Then it's sprucing up bathrooms.  Painting the exterior doors and trim.  Adding the bedroom and bath.  Changing the lighting.  landscaping.  And purchasing some of the appliances we will need.

It's a process and will take time, but for this week, we will be stripping wallpaper and purchasing paint.

Stay tuned for some before and after shots in the coming months.

Thanks for popping in to see what I have been up to!

Happy Easter

Hello everyone and Happy Easter!

I am just popping in for a quick share, been so busy lately that I have been a little remiss with my posts, so I thought I'd let you know what I have been up to 'crafty' speaking!

We are heading to my Mom's for dinner today so I made this super yummy white chocolate and lime cheesecake to bring with us.....

Scroll down if you are interested in the recipe .

Last night my little Timmy wanted to make his Grandma a card, this is what he came up with....

He is so super crafty, and whipped this up in no time... I think he gets that from me since his Dad can't craft a stick figure.  However, the man can cook!

After Timmy headed to bed I created this for my Mom.

Watch for a tutorial coming soon, on how to get sweet images like this one onto your cards.

Then I created a few quick and easy tags for the Easter Bunny to use...

Thanks to my Friend Victoria for crafting with me last night and loaning me this sweet Close to My Heart stamp.

White Chocolate and Lime cheesecake

2 pkgs of soft lady fingers
2 pkg cream cheese
1 c. sugar
1/4 lime juice
6 squares Bakers white chocolate, melted
1 envelope unflavoured gelatin
1 cup whipping cream, whipped
strawberrries and lime slices
2 tsp finely grate lime peel (optional)

Line bottom and sides of a 8.5" springform pan with lady fingers, rounded sides facing out.  Whip cream and set aside for a few minutes.  Beat cream cheese on lowest speed until smooth,  blend in sugar and melted chocolate.  Mix well.  Put lime juice into a saucepan on low heat and sprinkle gelatin over top.  Stir until gelatin dissolves.  Blend warm gelatin and lime peel into cheese mixture.  Fold whipping cream into cheese mixture.  Pour into lined pan.  chill at least 3 hours.  Garnish with strawberries and lime slices.

This can be prepared in about 15 minutes and made the night before if desired.

Thanks for checking in with me!

Have a great long weekend.

Copic Colouring - Card

hello blog friends,

I was lucky enough to be able to take a Copic class the other week, the class was to create 3 cards with coloured images.  The class only finished 2 of the three cards.  Therefore the third was to be completed for homework.  To tell the truth, I would have rather skipped the card making part and just focused on colouring 3 images, oh well.   Now, i will just have to look for another class to take ;)

Here is a peek at my colouring, let me know what you think!

thanks for stopping by today!

Tips and Techniques Wednesday

Hello all!

Anita from ScrapMuch?  asked me to feature this My Little Yellow Bicycle mini envelope album from the 'Twig' collection.

it comes with everything you need to create a wonderful mini album that could serve as a keepsake for a special someone in your life.   i added a few 'Twig" embellishments that coordinate with this album and a few punches to whip this up.  It was quick and easy.

For now it is going on display at ScrapMuch?'s  Scrapfest booth, but when I get it back I intend to sit down with my little Timmy and and fill out all of the journaling cards, with his favourite things, and my wishes for him as well as a snapshots or two.

Thank you for visitng!

Cards to share - Bo Bunny

Hello all,

I have recently reconnected with an old friend, well other than Christmas card swapping.  It's been nice chatting online with her.  I was prompted to reach out to her when I received our Christmas card this year, as it was handmade.  Thinking how much I love card making, I  knew we should hook up again.  She mentioned she was in a club, but was wanting to learn more techniques... well, heck I am up for that challenge!

Here is what I came up with to create with her, all of the cards are lifts form the latest issue of Papercrafts magazine.  I simply changed up some of the design to suit the techniques I wanted to share.

This card features border punching, creating a sentiment window with the Cuttlebug and a Spellbinder die, and adding glitter with double sided tape.  This glitter technique is super fast and tidy!

This card features edge distressing, inking, doodling and embossing.

This card is more simple and only has border punching and inking, but I wanted to create a masculine card too and show a way to use these Tim Holtz tickets.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you get to spend time crafting with a friend.

April Design's Revealed and a Sketch - ScrapMuch?, BoBunny,

Happy April fool's day!  I am loving the sound of April and am desperate for spring to start blooming around us!

This month I was lucky enough to get to play with the new Blast Off Collection by Bo Bunny!   It is such a fun collection of papers with wonderful embellishments to go along with it.  Last weekend I attended a day crop on Saturday and my goal was to complete all of my designs for this reveal, this is way behind schedule for me as I like to get them done in the first half of the month, giving myself loads of leeway for photo editing and updating the blogs.  But at least I met my goal and wrapped them all up by Saturday night!

This is the first layout that I created, I knew when I saw these papers and the little space monkey on them, I would need to use pictures of my friend's little guy, his nick name is 'Monkey Man'.

How cute is this chipboard embellishment.
This little monkey was originally a journaling card and I used a circle punch to punch out this image.  I love layering gems on buttons as I did with this star gem.
Here is another button this time layered with a brad.  The little glittery brads are super cute!
Adding some Glassy Accents to the star patterned letter stickers is a good way to add a bit of declension and shine.

Then I created this double page layout, I thought the space theme and colours went well with these pictures of Timmy in Disney when we checked out the various aliens, spacemen and monsters that we visited in Disney.
This time I created a double page focusing most of the embellishments around the pictures int he centre and leaving the outside edges fairly open to show off this great patterned paper.  i love that Bo Bunny created these two sheets to join together perfectly in the middle, with the pattern flowing from one side to the other, it actually made me giddy!
This denim bit of fabric is from the ribbon pack that goes with this collection, Bo Bunny calls them 'wraps'.  I used a staple to whip up this 1/2 flower shape and layered a chipboard bit on top.
Layering punched paper, ribbon and a die cut alien add a bit of fun to the left hand edge of the layout.
You'll probably notice that I like to group my embellishments, usually in three's, similar to the home decorating philosophies.
This orange embellishment is actually a sticker, adhering it to a piece of cardstock and then pop dotting it gives it a lot more dimension.

Then I decided to challenge myself to create a more feminine card from this little boy paper, what do you think, did I hit the mark.
This silver cord and jumbo rhinestone were part of the package of ribbons, cute eh?

These projects would have completed my Design Team commitments, but when I got home from the crop, I still felt like creating, so I whipped up this cute gift bag.

I added Glassy Accents to the aliens' eyes to give them a more rounded effect and a bit of shine.

Then I created this little boy birthday card.....

I love these together!

Then I thought I'd do one more layout, this one I create without any pictures in mind, not my usual way of doing things, but it worked out in thend.

Another example of adding to a simple sticker to give it more presence.
I added little gems to this border sticker for some extra fun!
Glassy Accents added to these die cuts adds to the fun factor.

And more Glassy Accents on the alpha stickers gives them dimension snd shine.
