Tip and Technique Wednesday

Hello Blog friends and Happy Wednesday!

I am busy getting ready to move this Saturday, but I do have a tutorial for you.  This time we are making our own Fun Flock, have you ever used this product?   I have only tried it a couple of times, though I am not sure why, after trying out this technique I will use it again.  The only thing I forgot to mention in this video is that you should use sold core cardstock.

Thanks for stopping by to see what I have been busy creating.

Scrappy Withdrawal

Hello,

I thought I'd share a few pictures with you.  Yesterday I finished packing up all of my scrappy stuff in preparation for our move next week.  Check it out...

Now can you believe that I have already moved a full Ford Flex load ;)  Can you say addiction!

Also, can you believe it all came out of this little closet (okay it's not really little but it is a closet).

And guess what, after we move I am getting a scrap ROOM again!

So excited!

Thanks for checking in with me today!

Tip and Technique Wednesday

Hello blog friends!

I thought I'd share a little stamping technique today for the ScrapMuch? blog as I noticed that we have many stampers in our midst at the last crop.

This technique is called "Rock and Roll', watch the video to learn how to add this technique to your projects.

If you use this technique on your project and you want to see it featured on the ScrapMuch? blog send me a photo here, before Thursday the 30th of June.

Thanks for popping by!

The End of an Era

Hello blog friends!

Yesterday marked the end of an era for us as a family.  Today is our first day of retirement from fostering.  For the last 12 years we have provided a home for almost 90 children, from newborns to teens, up to 4 at a time.

This is a `job`we started after I became visually impaired and had to stop working.  Our boys, Chris and Jon, were both in school full time then and I was lonely at home by myself all day.  I was looking for something to fill the void of full time work, and occupy my mind to keep me from feeling sorry for myself.

Well I hit the jackpot on the keeping busy part!  During this time we have attended meetings with dozens of social workers and teachers, and hundreds of doctor and dentist appointments.  Thousands of lunches were packed and socks were washed.  Countless diapers were changed, hands held and boo boos kissed.  There were grads to be proud of and sporting events to cheer at. And many, many happy endings.

Being a foster parent is definitely the most challenging job I have ever done, it is a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year job.  There can be a lot of politics, bureaucracy and red tape.

In the midst of it all are the children in need and the sole goal of a decent parent / foster parent is to advocate for the children in their care, in whatever capacity that need be.  That in and of itself can be a full time job and requires a lot of juggling.  Because of these children it is also the most rewarding job that I have ever had.  We were fortunate to have many sweet children to enjoy.

However, as we take a step back from this role, which becomes a way of life, we also take with us the most amazing gift.  Our youngest son, Timmy, who was brought to us at only a few hours old way back in 2003, in 2005 we had the good luck and joy to be able to adopt him.  He is ours forever and my silver lining.

I am grateful for the opportunities that fostering gave our family, but I am also looking forward to focusing on my family we will have have new endevours of our own in the coming months.

Tip and Technique Wednesday

Hello Blog Friends!
It's Wednesday and that means another tip for you!  I learned this little flower making technique from scrappy friend, Julie at the most recent ScrapMuch? crop.

And here are a couple of still photos, but bear in mind the Stickles are not dry yet ;)  It looks really cool when they are.

I'm sorry I didn't post a project featuring this flower, but I am super short on scrappy time.

Thanks for stopping by today to see what I am up to!

Renovation Updates

Hello Blog friends,

It's super crazy busy around here, with too many late nights, which are making for cranky and hairy mornings. lol  Only about 2 1/2 weeks left until our move and we are madly trying to finish off the new house.

I thought I'd pop in and give you a sneak peek at what we have been up to.

a new room in the basement for our big boys

powder room with it's new floor (still dusty) waiting for wainscoting of some sort and a toilet and vanity

a large double vanity being installed in a new bathroom for our big boys

a super big shower in the boys new bathroom

cabinets, hardware and granite we chose for the kitchen

the kitchen is almost done, needs toe kicks, sink and counters

shiny clean tub surround and new fixtures, a great way to cover ugly old tile quickly and easily
Thank you for stopping by today to see what I am up to, still being creative just differently!

Tips and Techniques Wednesday

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

I have a fun technique for you today, actually just a simple and quick tutorial about making pinwheels to add to you creations.

First, gather your supplies...

You will need a square of double sided patterned paper (mine is  3" x 3"), a pencil, an eraser, a piercing tool or thumb tack, scissors, a brad, and a small circle of coordinating paper, and an ink pad (optional).
First, draw some pencil lines with a ruler from corner to corner of your square.
Using your scissors cut along the pencil lines, but not right to the centre, leave about 1/4".

Erase your pencil lines and ink the edges if you wish.  If you are inking you will want to ink both sides of all of the edges.
Next pierce a hole in the centre and one side of the little 'triangles' .
Slip your brad through your small circle piece, then through each of your 4 corners, and lastly the centre of your square, and secure.  This is what you end up with.
Now it is ready to use of your project.  I whipped up this quick and fun Father's Day card.   Though I am not really sure why, since I know Timmy will want to craft his own ;)

I have used these pinwheels on layouts too, I am okay with them getting flattened after they are in may album, in case you were worried.  They still look like a pinwheel and still add a bit of dimension to your project.
Oh, and here's a little close up.

Cropping

Hello blog friends!

This is where I will be on Saturday!  I am looking forward to doing some creating, well other than assembling cupboards, as that is what we are doing at the house this week! Though i must say that if you are thinking of doing a do it yourself kitchen, Ikea is the way to go.  Assembling is easy and the installation is definitely doable for the average do it yourself-er.  We have installed a few kitchens in our time and this one is definitely the easiest by far.

Thanks for popping by, hope to see you at the crop!
