Happy Birthday from Mickey

Hi there!

Just popping in, from the cruise, to share a little card with you.  Today, while cruising, we are enjoying a special character breakfast with some of the cast of Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar, to celebrate Shea's (the youngest child of the family we are traveling with) birthday.  Now, Shea is a huge Disney fan, so we brought along some Disney toys for him and I made him this card.....

Printing on a Journal Card Tutorial - Boys Rule

Hi there!

I have a new tutorial up on the Boys Rule blog today and you know I always love to share them here, too!  I have been meaning to try this for quite some time now, and since I finally got around to it, I thought I would create a set of instructions to share.  I am thrilled that it is much easier than I anticipated, and only took a few minutes.

First off you need to  choose your journal tag, and if necessary cut it out.  You can see mine is from a piece of 12" x 12" paper, so I cut it down to just the 4" x 6" single tag.
Next up, after determining your tag size, you will want to create a text box in your Word Program, the same size as your tag..
Go ahead and type in your journalling, adjusting font style, type and colour as you wish.
Now print out a sample print onto regular printer paper. This is what mine looks like.
Using Washi tape (as it is easily removable) tape your journalling tag right over top of your sample print.  Place the paper back into your printer ensuring it is lined up to feed through the right direction, and print again.
Ta da!  Cool, right?  I love it and can see myself using this technique over and over again!

Leaving on a Jet Plane.....

Hi there!

Just popping in quick to let you know that I am heading off on a vacation with my hubby and our youngest boy.  We have been prepping for weeks for our first ever cruise!

Can I tell you I am more than a little terrified!  I am not a good flyer, and have a fear of boats - more so the part about being out in a large body of water with no sign of shore.  And who really knows what is in that water?  And will I look like an idiot with my life jacket on the whole time?  What will that do for tan lines?  Uh oh, my crazy is showing!  Bottom line is I am trying really, really hard not to let my hang ups keep us from experiencing the world.  And a cruise is a great way to see parts of it we would not otherwise get to visit.

I am hoping, once we get on this baby I will feel a little safer.......

Eeeep, it's so big it makes my heart skip a beat.  How can it possibly float?

Anyway.... don't forget to pop in while I am away ..... there will still be a tonne going on here, maybe even a prize up for grabs.  Who knows?  I'm not talking and you didn't hear that from me!

Have a lovely week!

Excited, terrified, excited, terrified, excited, terrified!

Epic Birthday - Whimsie Doodles

Hi there!

I have a project up on the Whimsie Doodles blog today.  Whenever I get the opportunity I like to make fun tween / teen boys cards as they seem so hard to come by.  When I saw this image at the Whimsie Doodles Store, I knew it would be just perfect!

Cute right? I know a few boys that would like this!

Thanks for visiting!  Don't forget to check in on the Whimsie Doodles blog often to see what the rest of the DT is up to.

Faux Water Colour Painting with Mr. Huey's Tutorial - ScrapMuch?

Hi there!

I have a fun tutorial up on the ScrapMuch? blog, to share with you today. This one is a little messier than I usually play with,  I sort of have a thing about mess.... but it turns out so cool and pretty and I had so much fun, I couldn't resist.  I also found a way to minimize the mess and clean up!

Now to minimize mess and clean up, I used a couple of layers of clear food wrap as my artist's 'palette'.  When finished just roll it up and toss it away.

First spritz a few colours of mist beside each other, you will want to get some overlap onto one stamp.  I used yellow, green and a light teal.  Choose a stamp (I used a fern stamp) and tap it into the mists.
Now stamp in onto your paper.  I used a double stamping technique to  crate some colour variation and depth.

Next up, I used a red and white mist to stamp some flowers .  And then a darker teal mist for more leaves, filling in along the lower edge of my paper.

Then I went back with another flower stamp and some black ink and stamped a focal flower and a butterfly.

 And then some finishing touches!
It's really that easy, and the only clean up is washing the stamps!

Gone Fishin' - Boys Rule - Echo Park

Hi there!

It's my turn to share a layout over on the Boys Rule blog today and this is what I created, using this month's fantastic kit featuring Echo Park's About a Boy collection.....

I made a few of my own embellies to reinforce the fishing theme of my layout.  I love how well these papers coordinate with my photos.

There were such great elements in this kit, like stickers, buttons and twine.  An amazing white pen and some really cool acrylic.

Thanks for visiting!  Don't forget to pop on over to the the Boys Rule blog to see what the rest of the DT is up to.

Scrappy bling and pretty little boxes - My Mind's Eye

Hi there!

I am away this weekend at a scrappy retreat with 3 sweet friends of mine.  Yes, I do  know that I am a lucky girl!

I wanted to bring a little something for my girl friends.  I thought about it for weeks, and scoured the web for inspiration.  If you recall, in the fall I made and brought them these scarves that I made to a previous retreat.

I just couldn't decide what I wanted to make, in the end I came across this great little store on Etsy that creates custom jewellery with your photos inset into it.  I thought it would be fun to have them set a scrapbook layout created by each of my friends into a necklace.  When I contacted the shop owner she was very helpful and happy to create them for me.

They turned out great.... they almost look like real tiny little layouts as you can see some of the shadowing / depth in the photos.

I couldn't resist... I picked one up for me too!
When they arrived (right on schedule I might add), I set to work creating little gift boxes for them.   The Silhouette sure comes in handy for little projects like this!

Oh I just love the way they turned out!  So sweet and so perfect, love that machine!

Thanks for visiting! You know that I love it when you do!

Caught One - Boys Rule - Echo Park

Hi there!

There is a new challenge happening over on the Boys Rule blog, starting today.  This month it is Jenny's turn to choose the challenge!  So decided that asking everyone to create a layout with 5 or more patterns would be fun!  I loved the idea and decided to play along.  This is was I created....

I took advantage of this challenge to play with my starburst template from Studio Calico,   it gave me the opportunity to add 8 patterns and then I added one more for good measure.

I tried printing journaling onto a card, it was easy and fun.  Watch for a tutorial on this on the 29th.
I used one of the vellum Polaroid frames to frame the little fish and added some of the white pen to the clear acrylic arrow.  The pen, also from the kit, works amazing on acrylic - great colour saturation and dries instantly, loved it!

Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to pop on over to the Boys Rule blog to see what Laura-Lee and the rest of the DT are up to!
