Adding grunge to grunge - Boys Rule

Hi there!

I have a tutorial up on the Boys Rule site today, and I am sharing it here too!

Actually, I have 2 tips in one post for you today.   First up, you know these great paper pack inserts, they showcase the patterns in each collection.

And they are just perfect for cutting into strips to add to your projects.  I am going to use this piece on my card.

You guys all know how much we love grunge at Boys Rule, right?  Well I am going to show you how to add a little extra grunge to your grunge.

This Garage Days collection from Kaisercraft, that was included in this months kit, is a really great grungy line.

But I wanted a little more grunge, so I took this die cut that I will be adding to my card, and crumpled it up, giving it some really great distressed edges and folds.

Then I ran it across my ink pad along every crease that I created.

Have a look at this, doesn't it look great?

I repeated this process for the strip that I cut off the  packaging insert.

Now I will share my card with you...

I love the way it turned out and I hope you do too, why don't you give it a try!

Flower Embellishment - Tutorial

Hi there!

I am sharing a quick flower embellishment with you today.

To create this flower you will need to punch or die cute a circle in the size of your choice.

Flip over your circle and use a pencil and a ruler to divide up the circle into equal partitions.

Using scissors snip out every second section, being careful not to go too close to the centre.

Flip it back over.

Add a button to the centre and add to your project.

And that's it, it is that easy!

Be sure to check back next Wednesday, I have something really cool to share with you!

Larry the Lion - The Doodle Garden

Hi there!

I have a new project for The Doodle Garden to share with you today! I thought this little lion would make a fun gender neutral birthday card.  I really had fun colouring him, too!.

I tried to create a circus tent shaped card to roost him on, it didn't turn out quite like I envisioned. And it was surprisingly challenging. But it is cute enough.

I added this sentiment using my Silhouette and a red sketch pen.

All in all, I think it turned out cute, mostly thanks to that sweet image.

You can find this great image and so many more, here in The Doodle Garden shop.

A new box of super awesomeness - Evalicious

Hi there!

I received a package of really fab goodies from Eve at Evalicious to create some DT assignments with!  I was so super excited to crack open these babies that I only remembered to quickly snap this Instagram photo! oops! And then I started popping open packaging, it was like Christmas, but maybe a little bit better!

It was sweet of Eve to tuck in this little note :)

Do you want to know a secret, when I started to create I had to walk away several time... I got struck by a huge case of nervousness.  It happens every time I start a new DT and regularly in between.   I can never get over the fact that someone has entrusted me to create something appealing from a package of their generosity.

Anyway, here is a peak at my 3 day layout.  I am looking forward to sharing the rest with you soon!

In the meantime you should check out the Evalicious store here and following along with all the goings on on the blog here.  The new DT will be posting very soon!

Thank you Coach

Hi there!

My youngest son had his final hockey game of the season last Sunday.  I created these cards for him to give to his 3 coaches after the game.

They are pretty much the same as you can see, however I created a different hockey player Silhouette cute file for each.  What do you think, are they manly.

And a couple of weeks back, my son also had his final basketball game of the season. I made this card for his coaches....

Again pretty simple but masculine and says just the right thing,

DIY Enamel Dots - Tutorial

Hi friends!

http://www.mymindseye.com/Now&then/Now%20&%20Then/Lightbox/Accessories/1-Dorothy/NT1005.jpgIt's Wednesday and so I bring you another tutorial!   Are you a fan of these enamel dots like I am?
Well recently I came across a few ideas on how to make your own.  I opted to attempt the least odor inducing method.  Bet you didn't know that all of the tutorials that I attempt to put together to share with you don't actually make it to "print".

Some of the tutorials I share are ones that I find while researching online, others are my own ideas. But no matter how the ideas comes, I attempt to create each and every idea.  And honestly, some are just too complicated and so not worth it, others turn out way too ugly!  And some require a 'take 2 or 3".  So when I attempted this one, there were a couple of times that I was not sure whether or not it would work.  But, it really did!

So lets get started. You will need some Glossy Accents, Liquid Glass or other similar type product that dries hard and some waxed paper.

Go ahead and squeeze out a few rows of evenly sized blobs (yup we are getting technical!) onto the waxed paper.  Try not to make them too large or they will dimple in the middle as they dry. (This was one time when I was unsure if this would work.)  Leave these to dry for quite a while.  Put them in a safe place and do not do what I did and forget they are there and put something else on top of them. ha!  That's why my next photo looks totally different!

For the next step you will need some nail polish, in your favourite colours.  If you are not a nail polish owner / wearer hit the dollar store.  They have lots of 'tacky' nail colours that would be great for enamel dot colours.  And a $1.00 bottle will make hundreds if not more!

So now you want to go ahead and paint the dried Glossy Accent dots.  In case you hadn't guessed, this was the second time I thought to myself "there is no way this will work".  I can't not neatly paint these little tiny dots.  My hands are too big and my eyes too weak.  But I just plugged away, as I had nothing to lose.  You could always use a small paint brush, of course, this occurs to me afterwards and not at the time! ha! Now leave these to dry again, it doesn't take as long.

Once they were dried I discovered that wherever I painted messily around the edges the nail polish just flaked off so it really wasn't a problem that my painting wasn't great.  You just want to make sure that you have good and smooth coverage on the actual dots.

So, I thought I should show you that I actually used the dots that I made.  They were the perfect fun addition to this card that I made for a friend.

All in all, you should really give this one a try.  Aside from the obvious drying time it only took a few seconds to squeeze out the dots and a few more to paint them.  You could squeeze out a few dozen while watching tv (Criminal Minds)  one night and paint them the next night during your tv watching (Greys Anatomy).

Frogs and Slingshots - The Doodle Garden

Hi there!

I have a new project for The Doodle Garden to share with you today!  When I saw this little guy in the shop, I just could not resist him.  Keep reading for photos of my whole project.

Isn't he darling, look at those chubby toes!

I  had so much fun using him to adorn this treat box, just perfect for my youngest son's birthday yesterday!  I saw an idea on Pinterest that had sticks with stars on them and I thought they were so cute and just a perfect way for me to add some personal touches to my treat box.  When you littlest man turns 11 on St. Patrick's Day and loves frogs, it is not too hard to think of embellishments, ha!
