Background Tutorial

Hi there!

I have a new tutorial to share today.  Lately I have been admiring the look some scrappers are creating on their backgrounds.  Karen on the ScrapMuch? Sketch DT, used it on a few of her recent creations and I have surely been loving it - but honestly I thought it must be a convoluted process to create something so pretty - um wrong!

Well the other day I sat down to give it a try, so easy, so fun and so pretty - that's all I can say!  Check it out....

You will need a Tim Holtz distress ink pad (or other brand of alcohol ink pad), a mist bottle with water in it, a craft mat (or see my option) and a piece of white cardstock.

Start by rubbing the ink pad around on your craft mat in approximately the size you would like it on your paper. (Note - I am recycling a Silhouette mat cover in lieu of a craft mat.  They work really well, are washable and can be reused several times.  I always keep the covers when I have to discard a mat.)

This is what it should look like.

Now give your inked area a light mist with the water in your misting bottle.  Add some variety by misting more heavily in some areas than others.

This is what it will look like. So far, so easy right?

The last step is to place your cardstock over the concoction you just created, pressing lightly where you want the most impact.

This is the project, that I created with my misted - watery background.  I just love it.  FYI, it dries really quick without aid.

Now back to the homemade craft mat ;)
A quick wipe with a baby wipe and it is ready to go again.
Honestly these little babies are super, I have even washed them is a sink of warm soapy water!. Bear in mind, the Ranger craft mats can be used with heat tools, this one cannot. Lucky you, two tips in one day!

Command Centre

HI there!

I am sharing a new page on the Boys Rule blog today, my last one for the current kit.

I knew I needed to create a page of my middle son's "command centre" - seriously who needs 3 monitors?  But he loves it and uses it for play and school so it is what it is.  This kit had just the perfect combination of papers and embellies to document this story.  I had a little fun getting messy with this one, layering up ink and mist.

Here are some detail shots for you:

Playing with vellum - Tutorial

Hi there!

I have something fun to share today - a fun little tutorial.

It is probably not a secret to most of you, but I LOVE vellum.... you can do so much with with - soft layers, delicate embellies, sequin pockets .... and so forth.  But did you know that you could print photos on it?  Well, you sure can!

The other day I thought I should give it a whirl, so I got my baby all set up (an Epson Picturemate Charm - best photo printer evah!)  - now bear in mind that each printer may differ slightly but this is what I did.

My  first attempt didn't work, I cut the vellum to 4 x 6 inches and place it into the paper feed, well when I hit print it just fed the vellum straight through and gave me an error message (something about thickness, though I cannot remember the exact term).

So on my second try I used Washi tape to temporarily secure the vellum to a piece of photo paper, it worked like a charm!  (I'd say no pun intended but if you skipped past the first part of this post you won't get it ;)

I dries pretty quickly, but I did set it aside for about  5 minutes to make sure.

I love the effect, soft and wispy, transparent while maintaining the definition of the photo.

So in case you want to try something a little different - give this a shot - it is fun and easy - I think it would look great in black and white too!

Everyday Life - Evalicious

Hi there!

I am up on the Evalicious blog today with a new project!

There are so many great items in the Evalicious shop for foodies, and since we are a family of foodies, I knew that a food page was a must.  My youngest son is pretty much only a foodie with breakfast, the rest of the day he could take it or leave it... unlike the other members of our family.  Documenting his yearning for lovely big, warm breakfast seemed natural for his album.

I used labels from the Hello 2014 and Everyday snipsnip sets, Everyday snipsnip page tabs, Hello 2014 large tags, Just Us snipsnip large tags, puffy stickers from the Everyday Miscellany setJust US set, and Talk to Me set.
An Everyday Miscellany sticker. And badge buttons (flair) from the Just Us set and the Everyday V1 and V2 sets. Stamps from the Smile Journal Prompts set  and My Favourite stamp set. And a Round Arrow paper clip.

Here are some close up shots:

I had so much fun layering up different elements and adding some ink and stitching to the mix.

I put "my story" front and centre with the photo on one of these fabulous cards.

layering up page tabs and some messy stitching for texture.

I really like combining a bit of everything  for interest.

Thanks for visiting!  And don't forget to pop by the Evalicious blog to see what the rest of the team is up to!

TIME with you - June 15th Stuck?! Sketches Reveal

Hi there!

There is a brand new sketch up over at Stuck?! Sketches, have a look at my take on it.....

These photos were taken while we were out for dinner, we have a habit of killing our wait time with taking selfies.

I told my husband that this was  a freebie layout because aside from the background paper everything else what pulled out of my leftover bin. Which is kind of funny in itself, because really didn't I pay for the stuff in the first place?  But no, I think along the lines that I had used the majority of the collections so I got my monies worth out of it, right?  But it was even funnier when my husband reminded me that I did get paint all over a shirt and a sweater while creating the page, so that cost me! And in all fairness, he doesn't care or ask what I spend so I needn't have gone down that path in the first place, lol!

Anyway, here are a few close up shots....

Tim Holtz rubons tucked in (love doing that), MME enamel dots,  grocery store heart clip (yup), Studio Calico tiny wood veneer hearts and the ampersand was from Elle's Studio.

A few left over die cuts created with my Silhouette, Buttons and Badges flair.

You can see in this photo that I dipped almost everything into paint and added some paint to my background.

Here is a look at the sketch....

We have 2 fantastic sponsors for this sketch ,  ScrapMatts, for sponsoring is offering 2 large pieces of chipboard to one lucky participant!

Wild Child - Boys Rule - Fancy Pants

Hi there!

I am up on the Boys Rule site today, sharing this fun altered item.

This altered piece started as a wooden frame with a star focal point. Since non of the pieces were removable, it took a little finagling to cover this frame, but it ended up looking pretty cute.

My son likes it too, he put it right in his room!

Another cute punch tutorial ~ ScrapMuch?

Hi there!

Guess what?  I have now been sharing tutorials with ScrapMuch? for 3 1/2 years,  almost every Wednesday - to the tune of 178 tips or techniques shared (plus this one)!!!  I must say it is getting more and more difficult to come up with fresh ideas to bring to you each week.  Do you have any suggestions?

I have an ongoing list that I add to whenever I think of something that might be fun to try or I see something on the www.  Some ideas are simple and some are very involved and I am always up for suggestions or guests.  Often I try to use a tip or technique on a project that I am creating, for two reasons really - one so that I can create a sample for you and secondly so that I have a project crossed off my to do list.

Today's tip unfortunately does not come with a finished project... I quite simply ran out of time.   However, it is easy and you will still get the gist.

I think many of us have this scallop punch, or one quite similar - even a larger one will work just fine for this technique.

Go ahead and punch along one edge of your paper of choice.

Trim your paper down to your desired width.

Now trim width-wise down the middle of each scallop.  How about that, you just created some sweet and easy banner pieces to adorn your next project!

You can make these in any size that you need, super quick and it is a great way to use up some scraps!  [Sorry for the dark images - this was a 3am project ;) ]

Have a great day!
Laura
