Enjoy the Day | My Creative Scrapbook

Hi there!

I am sharing a new layout and process video for My Creative Scrapbook today!  I am having so much fun with the January main kit!!

For today's page, I opted to pull the warm wood tones, black and white and russet coloured elements from the kit.  As my page progresses, however, I also pulled in some yellow tones.

You know how much I love wood-grain backgrounds so using this gorgeous paper was a no brainer! I also added some stitching to my background using a metallic Spring green thread, in the shape of a heart to frame my focal area. I used a pencil to draw a heart outline and then stitched over the pencil lines with my sewing machine.

I kept my title simple, the kit had so many great pieces that could make for easy title work.

I clustered up some pretty floral ephemera and chipboard pieces, plus I added a couple of stickers like the heart and stack of books.  These pieces seemed so perfect for this photo, snapped at my son and daughter in law's wedding.

I also added a small embellishments cluster at the bottom of my page, adding a simple "w" Thicker as a pop of black to balance the black in my photo.  I also added a sprinkling of the Jillibean Soup wood veneer pieces that came in the kit.

My final step was a splattering of a Spring green Heidi Swapp colour shine from my stash.

As mentioned, I have a process video for this layout, you should watch it!  Here or on my You-Tube channel, which ever you prefer!

Supply List:  Carta Bella "Welcome Home" patterned paper (stay a while, flower market), die cut cardstock pieces, element stickers, chipboard accents; American Crafts Thickers; Jillibean Soup wood veneer flowers. Other Supplies: Heidi Swapp citron color shine.; misc. metallic green thread.

Thanks so much for visiting today!

Play All Day in the Snow | Stuck?! Sketches

Hi there!

It's time for a new challenge at Stuck?! Sketches, I created a more traditional sketch design which features two photos, but it would suit one larger one or even a small collage, as well.

I dug deep into my stash of Winter goodies to create my page, and I am happy to say there is now not much left in there at all!  I also printed off some older pictures, from 2015, I don't know why these haven't made it onto a page yet.

I mixed and matched papers from different collections and manufacturers, and even pulled some non Winter themed papers from my scrap bin.

I really wanted to add some hand stitching with some pretty variegated floss that I found in my stash, so that was pretty much m first step after choosing my colour scheme.

My title is a simple sticker, because why bother reinventing the wheel, plus it fit the space well enough. I aimed to have this upper cluster balance the lower one.

I have had these Maya Road snowflakes forever, I really love them, but at some point you just get done with having them in your stash.  That said, I would so buy them again! LOL

I had this lonely flair in my Winter stash bin, and it is perfect for my page! I built the rest of this cluster around it.

I have a process video for this layout, you should watch it!  Here or on my You-Tube channel, which ever you prefer!

Week 2 | Heartful Reflections

Hi there!

I am sharing week 2 in my "heARTful reflections" journal today!

I am trying to be mindful of looking for a story or event that inspires my journaling each week, that said I am okay with just winging, it too.  This week the Golden Globes were on, now I don't normally watch them, but I did see Oprah's speech on the news and watched it several times.  I thought about it off and on during the week, it really resonated with me.

In the end, I decided to print it out in it's entirety and add it to my journal.  I also added my own words and tucked them into the little pocket.

I felt like using a photo of Oprah, was fitting. Especially since none of the photos that I took during the week really spoke to my journal entry.

I am glad that I remembered to document three positive things from the week!

My page ended up slightly chaotic looking, which somewhat resembles my emotions of the week.

This is how my spread looks in my journal.

You can watch my process below or on my You-Tube Channel.

Supply List: Simple Stories chipboard, stickers and ephemera; Authentique tile stickers; Recollections pocket; my own print and cut label; Decoart and CTMH paints; misc twine.

Making a House a Home | My Creative Scrapbook

Hi there!

I am sharing a new layout and process video for My Creative Scrapbook today!  As I mentioned the other day, this month's main kit, is so gorgeous, and I totally love it! It is full of goodies from Carta Bella and a few from Photoplay Paper and Jillibean Soup.

This sort of drafting style paper inspired my page, this time around.  We recently finished a fireplace addition / renovation and I thought this paper and this kit would be perfect to tell this story.  Normally I scrapbook about a year behind, but today's page called fro recent pictures.

I altered this circle "home" die cut with some typing to create my title, I love the home made look of it.

I also modified this third "#" sticker that read "#farmhouse" to read "#fireplace" which better suits my story.

I used some of the sweet flag shaped paint swatches to create a banner and anchored it with a pretty little die cut of a plant.

My final step was a sprinkling of white mist.

As mentioned, I have a process video for this layout, I would love you to watch it!  Here or on my You-Tube channel, which ever you prefer!

Supply List:  Carta Bella "Welcome Home" patterned paper (3x4 journal cards, 4x6 journal cards, let's stay home, herb garden), die cut cardstock pieces, element stickers, chipboard accents; Jillibean Soup wood veneer flowers; rustic twine. Other Supplies: Distress Oxide ink (iced spruce); Mr. Huey's white mist.

Week 1 | Heartful Reflections

Hi there!

I am sharing my first weekly entry in my "heARTful reflections" journal today! I used up some of the products that I had pulled when I created my journal cover in the last video.  It felt good not to have to re-home them in my stash.

It also felt good to get my feelings down on paper and off my chest.  I did my journalling in the form of a letter to 2017.  I also stapled it shut, as it is very private, and then tucked it into this library pocket.

My photo was taken on New Years Eve, after midnight.  We had a fun night.  I hope to continue this fun and positive vibe through as much of the year as I can!

I love this phrase banner is it so perfect and positive!

I also love the anchor, and the rainbow of colour I used to represent the rainbow of emotions that 2017 brought. Choosing meaningful (to me) embellishments, helped to express my emotions.

As I set out to do, I added three positive things, in a second, and visible, journalling area to document three positive things that occurred during the week in an effort to look for joy and stay positive!

You can watch my process below or on my You-Tube Channel.

Supply List: Simple Stories chipboard, bradz, acrylic clip and ephemera; Paige Evans ephemera; Pebbles patterned paper; My Mind's Eye alphas; my own print and cut label; misc. library pocket; Tim Holtz tiny attacher.

You Are My Home | My Creative Scrapbook

Hi there!

I am sharing the contents of the January main kit and a new layout for My Creative Scrapbook today!

Check out this gorgeous kit!  I will tell you that the pictures do not do it justice, it is even more lovely in real life!

I was inspired by this Jillibean Soup stamp set from the kit and wanted to use it on my first page, at least!  I did use it on other pages, too! Most particularly, the sketchy circle stamp caught my eye for this page.

It inspired me to feature lots of circles in my design.

I was originally going to cut my photo into a circle, too.  But in the end, as you can see, I opted for a heart shaped photo.

I punched several different sized circles from a bunch of the patterned papers and layered them up in a horizontal strip of circles, off the page at first.  I then took the whole thing to my sewing machine and stitched a length of the rustic twine across the centre of the strip of circles.

I laid the strip of circles onto my background, without adhering it down, so that I could determine where to stamp the sketchy circles.

After stamping a few of them, I adhered my focal area down. Next, I adhered the photo.

I cut apart the stamp that reads "you are my happy" so that I could combine the first part with the 'home' sticker to create my multi font title.

Don't be afraid to trim your stamps, you may find you get more use out of them.  If you are careful and use sharp scissors, you will not damage the stamps at all.

My favourite step, embellishing, came next. This horizontal design created lots of little places for me to tuck in some goodies!

I also created a bit of an embellishment cluster at the bottom and tucked in a label to add the date.

My last step was a sprinkling of three colours of mist.

Supply List: Photoplay "Memory Lane" patterned paper ( tradition, family tree); Jen Hadfield "Heart of Home" patterned paper; Carta Bella "Welcome Home" patterned paper, die cut cardstock pieces, element stickers, chipboard accents; Jillibean Soup "Healthy Hello Soup" clear stamps and wood veneer flowers; rustic twine. Other Supplies: American Crafts cardstock; Stazon timber brown ink; brown Sharpie; Heidi Swapp gold color shine; Glimmermist (brick, olive vine).

Introduction and Cover Process Video | Heartful Reflections

Hello friends!

I am beginning a new personal journey combining photos, journalling and pretty things. Yes, it sounds so much like scrapbooking!  But it has a little twist, because it is for the "soul" purpose of helping me to make 2018 a more positive year than 2017 was.  This is 100% for me, and I am hoping to share it with you via Instagram and my You-Tube channel.

I would, of course, love for you to join me, if this is something you feel that you could benefit from, too!  Let me tell you a little about my thought process.  And then I will share a process video of how I prepped my "journal" so that I could begin later this week.

I try hard to be a positive person, although of course I am not always successful. I am certainly more successful in my hobby as it brings me so much joy and is a great stress release. So I thought maybe my hobby could help me focus more on the positives in life's journey. I thought about doing Ali Edward's "One Little Word", but I didn't want to feel "confined" to a specific word or thought.  I wanted to be free to adapt and change as the year progresses, if I need to or choose to.

After sitting down a couple of times I decided on a concept that seemed a little more fitting to my goal / needs.  Then I worked on a name - "heARTful" reflections came about because I wanted something that represented a personal journey via journalling / documenting and creating.

Heartful is defined as "an amount of emotion considered to be present in the heart" according to Wiktionary. And that seemed so perfect for what I was hoping to achieve.

I also created a pretty logo, so that you can look for it and follow along. I used a rainbow of colours in the logo because colours often represent emotions.

I set a few ground rules for myself:

1.  one entry per week
2.  include at least one photo, taken during the week, that represents something about the week (it can be a selfie, a group photo or anything that I feel needs to be reflected on
3.  journalling is a must, but can certainly be hidden
4.  emotional wellness is the goal
5.  there is NO wrong
6.  stash items are a must, this should cost nothing, except adhesive of course
7.  it should not be time consuming, 10-20 minutes a week maybe
8.  this can be a "messy" or "neat"documentation of the heart and soul
9.  if I have had a rough week, I will also add three positive things that happened, as a way to look to the bright side
10.  if I have had a good week, I will add three ways that I try to share love and support with someone else

The first creative step, was to choose what kind of book / album that I wanted to use.  I opted to alter and old hard cover book.  But if you would like to play along you could also use options like a mini album, a Smash book, a journal, a travelers notebook, or even a 12x12 album ... no wrong choices!

I am also hoping to share a few freebies along the way; like cut files or printables, maybe a prompt or two and hopefully some guests, if I have any interest!

The creative process for my "journal" was super fun, pretty quick and used up some stash! I worked with my "happy" colours - yellow, teal and grey.  Plus I added in some pink and gold for fun.

I also opted to added my project name as my journal title.

You can watch the process I took to set up my book and decorate the cover below or on my You-Tube Channel.

This idea has me excited to see where it takes me, I look forward to sharing it with you.  If you join in on my journey use the hashtag #LWDheARTfulreflections so I can see what you are sharing!

Supply List: Simple Stories chipboard, bradz and ephemera; Paige Evans ephemera; Pebbles patterned paper; Studio Calico, Authentique, Pink Paislee and My Mind's Eye alphas; DecoArt acrylic pain in turquoise and white.

Snow Day | Stuck?! Sketches

Hi there!

Happy New Year and new sketch day for Stuck?! Sketches!   I am so happy you visited today!

Here is the latest sketch,:

I love it, but it stumped me.  Hmm, what do you make of that? Seeing as I created it and all! But then I had an idea.  To turn diamonds into snowflakes!

Then I ran with it, I had so much fun creating this page!

I started by die cutting two different sized snowflakes into the upper portion of my white cardstock background.  The larger snowflakes are from the Silhouette store and the smaller die cut snowflakes I created.

I also used a pencil in my Silhouette to draw the smallest snowflakes (another one of my designs) onto my background.  I wanted to add some fun stitching with metallic silver thread.

I love the way they look and it's a good thing , too, as they took me two days to sew and on more than one occasion I questioned my sanity.   I mean really, I am visually impaired.... holding the needle and a magnifying glass and the paper, ugh!

Anyway, I am no quitter! I even took it one step further and added the little asterisk style snowflakes.

Then I took a scrap piece of cardstock and used a bunch of ink pads and the packaging technique to add some gorgeous colour to the paper.  I LOVE the way this tuned out!!

Once it dried I adhered it to the back of my layout and added some machine stitching with the same silver thread.

And then I got to create my beloved embellishment clusters! So fun!

I played with some old Simple Stories goodies and was so happy to bust up some of my Winter stash.

I added some splatters of metallic silver mist, and drops of Ranger Enamel Accents for even more of a Wintery look!

I have a process video for this layout, you should watch it!  Here or on my You-Tube channel, which ever you prefer!

We have two amazing sponsors offering prizes for this challenge!
