A little scrappy shopping trip

the other day I made a quickie trip to our lss while doing some errands. With Timmy in tow it's always interesting! I grabbed a couple or things and so did Timmy (he thinks it's his right to get some new crafty stuff whenever he is with me at a scrappy store. he he he). He is especially drawn to papers and sparkly things (I think he is part raccoon, though who am I to talk really!). Anyway, he wanted to make some Valentines and grabbed these papers from a couple of different manufacturers, not too bad at coordinating, is he? I can't wait to see what he creates! I will be sure to post it!

Hope you have time to play today!

Finally some play time!

edit - I forgot to mention that I made these Valentine's a little early so I could play along with this week's challenge over at Little Red Wagon .

it's only a few cards, that I made last night but it went a long way to restoring my balance this week! I picked up a few new papers( they are not really seasonal) and used them with some old seasonal papers. I also added some little paper heart doilies and foam hearts from the dollar store.

A valentine for my hubby, I was going for a retro goth look... did I get there?

This one is for Timmy, I saw these Scenic Route chipboard sentiments on clearance the other day and grabbed them for this one in particular. This is what I say to Timmy whenever I say good bye to him, so you know I just had to have it!

These four are for my three foster sons and my 18 year old, if you check out the picture below you'll see they have a little spot inside to slide in some bucks!

I just have one more to make, I think, hmmm maybe not now that I think of it!

Hope you get some time to do something today that helps to restore your balance!

All okay....

Hi all, haven't had a lot of time for scrappy stuff lately. Though, I did attend the hostess club I am in on Friday night. We all copied the layout from page 68 in the January issue of Creating Keepsakes (sorry I can't tell you the designer, as that is all the info I remember off the top of my head). I will have to find some time to scan my take on it and post it here, with the designer's name. It was a fun layout to work on as a group. And I got to scrap photos that I had been meaning to get to for quite some time but kept putting off as I was using "Thomas the Tank" paper that I have used a few times already and it no longer inspires me. Though I do like how this layout turned out, so I guess procrastinating paid off for me this time! lol

Homeschooling is going well, we have made some gains already which makes me feel more confident about my choice. My little man is so smart and so fun to be with and he is trying so hard. I am really proud of him!

I got feedback from our school board and they are not giving me a hard time about my choice so that is also a good thing, one less hassle.

Anyway.... I hope you have a peaceful day and squeeze in even a few moments of you time!

A time for change....

This school year has been very challenging for my youngest son, as well as my husband and I. We have overcome his jitters about changing from the kindergarten program to the grade one program. Though this took several weeks to achieve. We are still enduring bullying issues, which are better but still less than ideal.

Now, we are also facing academic issues, as our son's language and reading skills have gone downhill since kindergarten. This is very concerning as he is not strong in these areas to begin with. While we are not entirely laying the blame on his teacher, she does bear a good portion of it, and we are not the first parents to have these concerns about her, actually there have been several. We asked the school for help and requested a classroom move, while the VP understood and wanted to help, her hands were tied as the Principal was unsympathetic and refused. In the hopes of helping him not fall any further behind this school year, and hopefully to make some gains, my husband and I have decided that homeschooling is our best option for now.

We have parented over 60 children and have been involved with the education system for over 16 years. I have spent many hours volunteering in schools and my husband works for a school board therefore, we do not discount the hard work that teachers do and the challenges they face every day, not to mention what a profound influence they can make in a child's life, when it is a good fit. However, as challenging as it will be to home school our son, we feel it is in best interest right now. I am nervous about this new venture for us, but am also looking forward to it for many, many reasons. I'm sure it will be hugely different from my background as an administrator for a large telecommunications company (lol)!

Wish us luck as we go forward with our new path! I will keep you posted on our progress.

Wishing happy days for all!

A double challenge

I have recently started checking challenge site and two that I check often have posted challenges that looked fun to play along with....

the first is Little Red Wagon , they are having a polka dot challenge, the second is Clearly Delightful and they are having a bunny challenge. So I combined the two and made this sweet little Easter card.

Oh and I had a little extra fun, colouring my white pearls green with my Copic markers, such a cool bonus use for these little beauties!

Have a scrappy day!

Scrapbook and Cards Today

Scrapbook and Cards Today is my favourite scrappy mag. It has great inspiration, Canadian content and a beautiful format, oh and did I mention it is free! There have been a couple of issues that I couldn't get at release time as they were all gone when I got to my LSS. So I decided on a subscription. It's pretty cheap and means I never miss out on my favourite mag as it is delivered right to my door! It can't get much better right?

Well actually it can! If you're like me and love this mag why not get a subscription, it is a great time to do it as SCT is currently donating all subscription proceeds to the Red Cross to aid Haiti. And as a bonus the Canadian government is matching the donations dollar for dollar.

It's a win win situation, a little something for you and some help for Haiti! You can find out all you need to know on the SCT blog here.

Thanks for taking the time to read this today.

Happy Birthday!

Today is my hubby's birthday! He leaves for work really early and I usually don't see him before hand, but our little guy was up early as he wasn't feeling well, so we were able to wish Daddy a happy birthday and give him his surprise. Happy Birthday Ian, we love you, hope you enjoy your IPod!

A masculine card....

I read a post on Little Red Wagon challenge blog, challenging us to make masculine cards. I needed to make a birthday card for my hubby so it seemed like a great way to do the challenge. However, I didn't get around to it in a timely fashion, the challenge is long over... but hey I needed to make a card anyway, right? Each Wednesday they release a new challenge, which have all been great, hopefully I will get one accomplished on time, sometime in the near future!

Hope you have a crafty day!

More play time!

I took a little more time last night to make one of my Copic creations into a birthday card for my son's girlfriend. The little blondish streak in the pixie's hair is intentional as Marissa sports a cute little streak in her bangs. I added a bit of glitter to her wings as a finishing touch.

Patterned paper, white card stock, ribbon, floss and glitter: all CTMH.
Purple c/s: Cricut
Button: Misc.
Gems: Kaisercraft
Stamp: CC Designs, Swiss Pixies Gretel
Markers: Copic
Die cuts: Nestibilities

Now I am off to do the housework that I have been seriously neglecting since the kids started their Christmas break!

Hope you get some playtime today!

Playing with Copics

Well, for about a year now I have been wanting to try Copics but have held off taking the plunge, for basically two reasons.... the first being their cost, and secondly fear of becoming addicted, mainly because of reason number one! Oh and a third reason, I was worried about their level of difficulty.

Well, I got an email from a Scrapbook Store in Montreal that I have ordered from in past, informing of a 30% off sale on their site and Copics were included in the sale! I needed no further prodding a sale is always a good reason to shop! So I ordered about 15, then I took advantage of a 15% off sale at another Scrapbook Store's site that I am enrolled in a monthly kit club with and picked up a few more colours that were not available at the first store!

I was pretty much right about the addiction part, shamefully I spent the better part of the day ignoring my 'to do' list and colouring instead! tee hee! I was also correct about the level of difficulty... there is definitely a learning curve to these little babies. You can see that I need to work on my shading and staying within the lines (it's back to kindergarten for me!). Also, because I my poor vision I will need to restrict myself to stamped images with large colouring areas, the smaller areas are just too darn difficult.
Anyway, I am sure that I can use a few of these beginner creations in some cards, maybe with a few finishing touches the mistakes won't be so noticeable...... I'm thinking a class may be a better idea than just winging it! We'll see if something comes up nearby!

Happy New Year

Well it's 2010! As the new year begins I am sending wishes of peace and health to all of you.

We returned last night from our mini vacation to Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. It was great to have no responsibilities other than to play with the kids for a few days. The resort has it all... dining , shopping, pottery, arcade, mini golf, many many indoor water slides, splash pads, hot tubs, surfing and a wave pool to name a few. We had a private cabana poolside, that included a safe, fridge and wide screen TV, not to mention wait staff to bring you anything your heart desires (for me it was margaritas!). Everything was under one roof, so for a few days we had a reprieve from winter coats, needing nothing more than bathing suits, shorts and t's in the 80 degree temps!

We attended an amazing New Year's Eve dinner featuring African inspired foods, followed by a dance with a big balloon drop and champagne toast at midnight! All of us, from the youngest to the oldest had a blast! We can't wait to go back... maybe in the summer so we can enjoy the outdoor play area as well!
