Tip and Technique Wednesday

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

I have a really quick technique for you today, paper collars or mini doilies of sorts to layer with your flowers or other embellishments.  You know that I love to layer embellishments, right.   Well, if you do too, then this is right up your alley!

To get started you will need a strip of paper and a border punch with a mid sized somewhat rounded shape to it.  Then punch along the edge of the paper.
Trim the punched piece into sections, between the pattern repeats.  you will need 8 pieces.
Start layering the pieces up, like this, until you have 4 pieces layered with a punched edge on each side.
Now go around again, layering the pieces with the punched edges on the diagonal.  And this is what you end up with.
Layer your little doily / paper collar with stickers or flowers etc. to create a dimensional embellishment.  This is a great way to fill a space if your original embellishment ins`t quite large enough for the space you want to fill..

I tried this with a larger border punch, as well.
I really like the results but found I only needed 4 pieces and could eliminate the diagonal pieces.

Now I feel like creating something fun to stick this on!

Thanks for popping by today to see what technique I am sharing!

Horizontal Sketch Challenge in the Moxie Fab World

Hi there!

I had a little more time to play, and went for another challenge, you can find all of the details here.

Here is the sketch that was provided....

And here is my take o it.....
I went for circles instead of squares and opted for a little bit more of a masculine card.  Two of my circles sit flush with the card, one is popped up and one is inverted, just for fun!

Papers are My Mind`s Eye, stamp is i-cling, music notes are punched with a Fiskars punch and covered in Glossy Accents, and I used some dew drops for bling.

Thanks for stopping by!

Playing with some Jillibean

Hello blog friends!

I pulled out my Jillibean goodies a couple of nights ago when I was feeling crafty.  These two layouts are what I came up with.

Last school year I snapped a couple of photos of Timmy doing his math homework.

glossy accents on top of letter stickers

chipboard stars covered in paper
You've seen this photo recently, when Timmy and I made ice cream a few weeks ago.  Since the ice cream making was a little science experiment, I thought these papers suited it perfectly.

backward 3`s make great e`s

adding punched circles and breads to button stickers to give them some pop

label stickers turned into little flags

Tip and Technique Wednesday

Hello all!

Can you believe it is Wednesday already, this week is flying by!  Not to mention, so is August, it's the 24th, yikes!  Mu DH returns to work next week after being home with me for 6 weeks.  I will really miss him during the day.  It won't be long now before the kiddies are back in school and we all resume some semblance of normal routine.  Not sure how I feel about that.

Well at least it's tip day, that's good news right?

Today's tip is a little of a spin off of all of the great corrugated embellishments available on the market.  But what happens if you do not have the perfect corrugated embellie for your project, or one is not available to purchase.   Well, I'm sure by now you know the answer to that question... I am going to tell you how to make a knock off corrugated embellie that is super cute and super easy!

First gather your supplies, you will need your favourite die cutting tools, either something like a Spellbinders die, Cuttlebug die or a Cricut to cut out whatever shape you feel will most enhance your project.  You will also need Kraft cardstock, a paper crimper and a ink pad (I really like using light colours for this but you can really use anything that will compliment your design).

 Now cut your desired shapes.
And run them through the crimper.
This is what you will end up with.
Next you will ink the edges, use lots of ink to really enhance the highs and lows of your shape and then adhere them to your project.
Here's another view, see all that dimension, isn't it awesome.
Thanks for popping by for another Wednesday tutorial!

Sweet Treats

Hello there!

It has been a long time since I have played along with any challenges, and I thought it might be fun to do it again.  While I was at the trailer I saw that Pile it On was having a 'sweet treats' challenge, and I new my Garden Cafe papers from American Crafts would be perfect for it.  This is what I came up with....

Everything is American Crafts except the pink bling which is Kaisercraft and the doily, which is from the dollar store.

This card ended up with a fold over top as a solution to running out of card stock.  That's the one thing about crafting on holidays, you have to work with what you have.  I really like this solution to my problem and will definitely use it again!

Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate you coming to look at what I am creating!

Pencil Box

Hi all!

I had a little time to just play' while I was away at the trailer.  This is one of the things that I created, a little pencil box for Timmy.

I didn't add much dimension  as I was afraid it would get caught on other things that are in his backpack.  But it's personalized, roomy and has lots of Jillibean goodness on it!

Thanks for popping by,

Taking some time off....

Hello blog friends.!

I have been taking a little time off from reality this past week.  My husband, our youngest son and I have been up at our trailer in the Kawartha Lakes.  Enjoying the fresh air and sunshine!

we took in a children's concert by the locks, and went out for a nice dinner afterward

wound down the days with camp fires, star gazing and wienie roasts

had a blast tubing

enjoyed the pool at our park

spent loads of time on our old scow of a boat

had a few family game nights in our trailer's  little kitchen

played and swam in the lake

caught a plethora of toads and fish

flew a kite
We made new friends.  And best of all, enjoyed the company of my sister and nephew and our friends the Keith's.

We will be heading home in a day or so, in time to finish off a few jobs before my husband, Ian, goes back to work next week.  I will truly miss him being around during the days, it has been a great 6 weeks having him home with us.

We also have to get our boys ready for school, with one starting grade 3 and two off to college (insert squeal of delight)!

thanks for stopping by!

A card to share - My MInd's Eye,

AHello all and Happy Monday!

I have a little card to share with you today.....
I used some of both 'Fine and Dandy' and 'Lime Twist' from MME, as well as a little resin flower brad from American Crafts.  I snapped the brad fittings off of the flower so that it would sit on top of my little sentiment banner without showing from behind.
Thanks for popping by, I hope you get some time to create today.
