10 + 4 = my favourites!

Hi there!

Today is the very last day of 2014 and so I thought I would share with you my ten favourite pages that I created this year.  You will notice my math skills are questionable though, since I did not stop at 10! This is a long post, but I would love for you to stick with it un
til the end.

Recently, I went through all of my layouts from each company or DT that I was a part of in 2014 and chose a favourite or two, so here goes....

From Boys Rule Kit Club, I chose these two pages....

I love the photo on this page even though it is kind of hard to tell it was taken at the beach.  It is based on one of my own sketches which happens to be a favourite of mine, too. I have used it a few times :)

This page is of my  middle son, he really is a great kid.  My heart is currently hurting for him so maybe that is why I love the page, but I do like the balance and the way the colours of the papers play up the photo.  The sketch this page was based on is by Jenessa Franco. Boys Rule has amazing kits, loaded with great papers and embellishments, so fun to play with.

For Evalicious I chose a page from my first term and one from my second term.

I love that I didn't use any patterned paper on this layout, I do not do that often and it is kind of fun once in a while (I do have a patterned paper addiction though, so I need to feed that often!) I also loved the way the photo looks, I printed it on vellum - a little hard to tell here but it is a cool technique.

This page features a large card that I love, for its phrase and colour palette.  I decided to use smaller photos in a film strip style so that the photos and the card would accentuate each other.   I love the product that Eve creates, it is so inspiring to play with.

I create sketches for Isabelle at Let's Capture our Memories, Isabelle and her DT coordinator Aurelie (fellow Stuck?! Sketches teammate) were kind enough to feature a couple of pages of mine. They made it to my top 10+4 list.

I love this page for its calm and organic feel, I like the way the colours and product work with my photos. Both this page and the next were created using my own sketches.

Alternately, I like this page for its vibrant colours and goofy pictures.  These photos reflect real life at my house.  I am gifted with a dozen or so goofy photos before I get the one I am looking for.  This page reminds me that I need to look for the gold in all the photos, because they all hold memories. I think I need to scrap more of my "outtakes" in the near future.

For my challenge blog, Stuck?! Sketches, my team is amazing and they inspire me to dig a little deeper in myself to put more of me and what I love into each page.  These are my Stuck?! 2014 favourites...

I had fun creating this page, maybe that is why it made it onto this list.  I just played with random papers and embellishments without a thought of sticking with a single manufacturer and I busted through some of my stash!  I also like the way the page looks as sunny as the photo.

This page is all Bo Bunny except the twine and alphas, I love the way it turned out.  It is based on a sketch that I created for Stuck?!, and I didn't think I really liked the whole triangle thing until I did this page! I love the pictures too, again my middle son along with our new puppy.

This is my last page for 2014 for Stuck?!, using some American Crafts papers and a random slew of embellishments. I don't often stamp on layouts and I do not know why, as I love the look on this page. I love the photo of two of my boys together, it makes my mom heart happy when they spend time together.  I love that my big boys know it is so important for my youngest to get this time with them.

The next two pages were created for ScrapMuch?, they always give me an amazing stash of product to play with each month.  Playing with perfectly coordinated elements takes the guess work out of scrapping so your mind can be free to just create!

I don't know what it is about this page that I love, but probably the way the colours pop off the dark background that the painted edges of the patterned papers and photo. I do not usually love doing birthday pages, this was a rare exception.

My youngest son and I totally went out and made mud to play in to take these photos, because I really wanted to scrapbook something like this.  I think it is a case of life mimicking art! lol  My hobby gets a big thumbs up for inspiring us to make a memory, just so we could document it! I might need to try this trick again!

The next few pages are layouts that I created to play along with challenges.

This page was created to play along with a mood board at Scrap Around the World this past summer.  I really love the way it turned out.  I created it about my hobby while at my happy place, with fun colours - so that is all kinds of good! Plus I won a prize for it!

This page was created to play along with a sketch at Scrap 365, along with a desire to create an all white page. I created it while at a retreat with friends, double bonus!  And the triple whammy was also winning a prize for this one!

This page was created to play along with a Fancy Pants Designs sketch by Jenny Evans.  I know it doesn't seem like it right now but I do not typically get a lot of time to play along with challenges ( I hope that changes in 2015) so it was super awesome to be asked by Fancy Pants to have this page featured in their June 2014 newsletter.

If you are still with me, I would like to tell you about a couple of things that have occurred to me while writing this post.  First, it seems that I like happy pages!  I thought I really liked distressed looking papers but as you can see, other than the Bo Bunny pet paper which is slightly distressed looking - my favourites all navigate away from the distressed look, hmmm?! Secondly, it would seem that I have a thing for the colour teal, usually in a lighter tone, but sometimes darker, too. This could be why the colour teal joined the long time standing yellow as being a favourite colour, in 2014. And third, I probably should scrap our older son and my husband and I a little more, we will have to make a point of getting in front of the camera!

Thank you for humoring me today, I enjoyed and needed this trip down memory lane and today is a great day for it!

I wish you all a safe, happy and healthy New Year - thank you for being on this journey with me, let's see where 2015 take us, shall we?!

Using Digital Cut Files as Digital Stamps - video tutorial

Hi friends!

Happy New Year, hope you have a happy and safe New Year's Eve! I am sharing a fun little tutorial today with my friends at ScrapMuch?, I hope you enjoy it!

This video pretty much says it all! (Maybe even too much, ha!)

Conversely, you could add colour to your cut files, then group them and print, and cut them out to create a pre-coloured digital image.  Another great tip for those of you that are not colourers!

Here is a still shot of the card that I made using this technique.

I hope this helps you look at your cut files in another way, it is always great when we can use our supplies in multiple ways!

Product List:
Pattern papers: Crate Papers
Copic Colours: Y25, 23, 21; E70, 71; W00, 1, 3; C0; BG0000, 10, 11, 13
Butttons and Twine: Misc.

Jolly - Boys Rule - Carte Bella

Hi there!

I am sharing my very last project of 2014 for Boys Rule with you all today! I know I have scrapped this photo of my youngest boy hanging out under the Christmas tree before, but I kind of love it so don't be surprised if in a few years you see it again! ha!

Admittedly, there isn't much left of my kit at this point, but I did have some great embellishments that I wanted to use up.  So I added in some cardstock in order to finish this page.

Plus I really wanted to create a page with this fun cut file that I designed ;)

I adore these rustic stickers with the wood slat look.

Cork and clear stickers are perfect for this page too.

More wood grain, and kraft, um yes please!

So glad you visited!

Say Cheese - October Afternoon

Hi there!

I have another page to share with you, created when I was playing the other night.  This time, I used a sketch from October Afternoon and my stash of Daily Flash goodies.

Sketch Dec 25th

This sketch was posted on Christmas day and you can link up either by Flickr or Instagram.

Here is my take on it....

This story is about finding selfies of my youngest on my phone, I just love when that happens, it is like a little gift which makes me smile!

I added Mr. Huey's mist in 3 colours to my background, as well as some Copic marker using the Tim Holtz sprizter and a mask. This is a super fun technique and I love the way it looks.  Plus no clean up time!  Did I mention  no clean up time!  LOVE, LOVE that!

I used My Mind's Eye enamel dots and DMC floss the rest is OA.

Love these chipboards! Love them even more when layered up!

Hello Fall - My Mind's Eye

Hi there!

I had a spare few hours the other night, and I decided to ignore my to do list and play along with the latest sketch up at My Mind's Eye.  sometimes, you just have to do that - it's a great stress release!

Here is the sketch....

Ronda Palazzari MME December Sketch

... actually if truth be told, it sort of reminds me of a design that I might create myself;)

Here is my take on it....

I used lots of different patterns from the Cut & Paste line, as well as stickers, brads and chipboard from several collections.  It was a fun way to use up some goodies.

I love the way the sketch suggested to add the journaling and just went for it, a little messy and crazy but also fun and free.

I added a bit of paint to my background using a Tim Holtz mask and a sponge, as well as some Tim Holtz rub ons.

The epoxy hearts were not quite the right colour so I changed them with a Sharpie.  I also added some colour to a wood leaf with 3 colours of copic markers.

Product list:
Everything is MME except floss, rub ons, paint and wood and burlap leaves.

DIY Pocket Tutorial - Boys Rule

Hi friends1

I am sharing a fun little tutorial over on the Boys Rule blog today, have a look!

I thought it would be fun to create a little pocket to add to a layout for hidden journaling, or a card for a special note or gift card, so this is what I came up with.

I used a piece of paper measure 3 x 4 inches, a 1 1/4" circle punch, a corner round and a notebook border punch.

first I punched along the left edge of the paper.

Then I round just the bottom right hand corner.

And then I punched a half circle from the top centre of the paper.

After I added it to my card front, I added some doodling and embellishing to finish it off. I am looking forward to making more of these for layouts, now.

Evalicious Prize Packs Winners!

Hi there!

Just a really quick post from me today.  First off, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with your families. We had a really nice day with our boys, my eldest son's girlfriend and my sister and nephew. Ian made an amazing prime rib with all the fixings (we are not turkey people).

I took a bunch of photos but with so much commotion and whatnot, who knows if any of them will be usable. I still have to put them on my computer when I get the chance.

Timmy was happy with his gifts, lots of hockey stuff - both for street hockey and ice hockey. He was also excited to give the gifts he chose and paid for himself.

Anyway back to the point of this post, the three winners for my Evalicious prize packs are ....

Congratulations to Ashley Hamm, Lynn  and JoAnn H! You are the first, second and third prize winners respectively. Please email me and put Evalicious winner in the subject line, to claim your prize.

Thank you for visiting!

Santa and a GIVEAWAY - Evalicious

Hi there!

I am up on the Evalicious blog today sharing this holiday page.

We have a family tradition of taking our pup to the local SPCA for pictures with Santa, it helps them raise a little money, and gives us a scrap-able memory ;)  This is last year's photo.  I was away, so my husband made sure he took our youngest and our pup.  Unfortunately our son was wearing bright yellow! For Christmas photos?  Obviously he is not the scrapper, lol!

Anyway, I scanned the photo into the computer and converted it to black and white, and it worked out perfectly for this page!

I kept all my colours really quiet so that the amazing Evalicious 'Oh What Fun' goodies really pop!  I created this half tree digital cut file with various sized circles just for this page, filling in some circles with water colour paints that accent the embellishments, other circles were filled in with embossed with cardstock.

I used a few of the snipsnip labels to add journalling to the upper corner of my page, sprinkling in wood veneer and badge buttons, as well.

I am in LOVE with these wood veneers!

And badge buttons, this is such a fun collection! My title was die cut in white, for a tone on tone look, but I doodled around it for a bit of pop.

Puffy stickers, page tabs and more wood veneers finish off the page!
